Biography
Formed in early 2002, agiven comprises
of Niall McGrath (vocals, guitar), Enda
Ward (lead guitar), Kevin O'Sullivan (bass),
David Burke (drums) and Felim
O'Donnell (percussion and flute). Influences include The Frames,
The Pixies, Counting Crows, Dave Matthews Band and Tool. The band
are based in the West of Ireland, originating from Mayo and Roscommon
and are currently living in Galway.
To date AGIVEN have played in venues
across Ireland including The Quays, The Cellar, GPO and Kingshead
in Galway and The Voodoo Lounge in Dublin. We have also conducted
a number of radio interviews and live sessions, most recently with
Phoenix FM in Dublin. Most recently AGIVEN have played support to
Aslan in The Quays, Galway in September and The Hothouse Flowers in
December 2003.
The band currently have over 30 songs
completed with many more works in progress. Songs are typically developed
acoustically and then expanded to full band arrangements. This technique
has resulted in two almost distinct sets of the same songs - acoustic
and electric. Experimentation with various instruments (mandolin, zyladrum,
and didjeridoo to name but a few) is continually ongoing and gradually
being integrated into the live set. Samples are also included in the
live set to add that extra bite to the songs.
Originally called FIRBhOLG, a name
change was decided in early 2003 and so AGIVEN was born. After many
home-recorded demos, a 3-track E.P. has been recorded in Sun Street
Studios in Tuam, and is the current release. A mini-album of acousitc
tracks is currently been recorded.
